ONE OF THE LARGEST AND BEST-KNOWN MARATHONS IN THE US
In its inception in 1977, a local running collective initiated the Grandma’s Marathon, which has expanded significantly over the years, rising from merely 150 runners its inaugural year to becoming one of the United States' most celebrated and expansive marathons today.
The course, blending calmness and thrill, winds through peaceful and picturesque Lake Superior's edges before reaching the city's boundaries of Duluth. Here, eager spectators greet the athletes and motivate them to the end line with a lively and fervent crowd.
Esteemed for its status as an international level event that exudes the feel of a small town's race, our event now attracts over 20,000 runners each June, contributing nearly $21 million to the local economy.
